Ordering a card on BuyCryptoCard takes a few minutes once your account is set up. The form asks for a balance, a payment option and a few confirmations, and it shows the full price before you pay. This guide walks through each step so your first order goes smoothly.
Before you start
Make sure that:
- your account is set up with two-factor sign-in and your recovery codes are stored offline,
- you know roughly what you will use the card for and how much you need,
- you have crypto available on an exchange or in a wallet, on a network you can send from.
Step 1: Open "Get a card"
From your dashboard, choose Get a card. The form opens with a balance field, a list of payment options and a price breakdown that updates as you type.
Step 2: Choose the card balance
Type the amount you want to be able to spend with the card, in US dollars. The balance must be between $10.00 and $5,000.00.
Choose carefully, because cards cannot be reloaded. Think about:
- the final price at the merchant, including tax and shipping,
- currency conversion if the merchant charges in another currency,
- renewals if you are paying for a subscription,
- a small margin for holds or price changes.
Our guide on choosing the right card amount helps with these estimates.
Step 3: Read the price breakdown
As you type, the form shows:
- the card balance,
- the load fee of 15%, calculated on the balance,
- the issuance fee of $5.00,
- the total to pay.
The total is calculated by our server and fixed when the order is created. It will not change afterwards. The issuance fee and load fee are not refundable. The pricing page shows the same calculation for any balance.
Step 4: Pick the coin and network
The Coin & network list shows the payment options available right now. There are two kinds:
- Hosted crypto checkout options take you to a payment page that shows the address and exact amount, and the payment is confirmed to us automatically.
- Wallet transfer options show an address in your dashboard; you send the total and paste the transaction ID.
Choose an option your exchange or wallet can send on. Our guide on choosing a payment network at checkout explains how to decide.
Step 5: Add an optional name
You can enter a name for the card. It is optional. Whatever name is issued with the card appears as the card holder in My Cards, and that is the name to use at checkouts. Use plain letters; some checkouts reject unusual characters.
Step 6: Confirm and pay
What happens next depends on the payment option:
Hosted checkout: after you agree to the Refund Policy and continue, you are taken to the payment page. Send exactly the amount shown, on the network shown. The payment is confirmed automatically — there is no transaction ID to paste.
Wallet transfer: the address appears with a QR code. Send the total, then paste your transaction ID, optionally attach a payment screenshot, tick the box confirming you sent exactly the total on the network shown and agree to the Refund Policy before submitting.
In both cases, remember that your exchange's withdrawal fee is not included in the total. If your exchange deducts it from the amount you send, add it on top so the full total arrives.
Step 7: Follow the order
Your order appears under My Orders with a reference number and a status:
- Awaiting payment — a hosted checkout order whose payment has not been confirmed yet.
- Checking payment — a wallet-transfer order whose transaction ID we are matching.
- Paid – awaiting card — the payment is confirmed and a team member will issue the card.
- Card issued — the card is in My Cards.
We email you when the status changes. The how it works page explains every status, including what happens if a payment does not match.
If you close the page
If you leave a hosted checkout before paying, open the order in My Orders and choose Continue to payment. The order keeps the total that was fixed when you created it.
Common first-order mistakes
- Choosing a balance exactly equal to the merchant's listed price, then being caught out by tax.
- Forgetting to add the exchange withdrawal fee.
- Sending on a different network from the one shown.
- Splitting the total across several transfers, which makes matching slower.
How long it takes
Timing starts once your payment has been confirmed or matched. Once your payment is confirmed, a team member usually issues the card within a few hours. You can follow each step on the order page, and you will receive an email and an in-app notification when the card has been issued.
Using the card once it is issued
When the order shows Card issued, open My Cards. The card appears with its balance, expiry date, card holder name and, where provided, a billing address. To see the full number and security code, choose Reveal details and enter a fresh code from your authenticator app; the details hide again after a minute. Copy each field with its copy button and paste it into the merchant's checkout, using the billing address shown with the card where the form asks for one.
A worked example in words
Suppose you want a card for a software plan billed yearly. You check the merchant's checkout and see the final price including tax. You add a small margin and type that amount as the card balance. The form shows the load fee, the issuance fee and the total. You pick an option your exchange supports, continue, and send the total plus your exchange's withdrawal fee so the exact total arrives. The order moves through its statuses, you receive an email when the card is issued, and you pay for the plan with the card the same way you would with any card.
Frequently asked questions
Can I change the balance after creating the order?
No. The total is fixed when the order is created. If you need a different amount, create a new order.
Can I add money to the card later?
No. Cards have a fixed balance. If you need more, order another card.
Which payment option should I choose?
Any listed option your exchange or wallet supports. The card total is the same for every option.
